THE THAMES DISTRICT.
BARAKA GOLDFIELD. Skortland, Oct. 3, 1867.
The Enterprise arrived last night about nine o’clock, and came up to. her usual anphorage at the deep water landing. The Tauranga had.arrived off PoinfcTararua at an early hour of the afternoon, and had landed her passengers at the Point. She made the passage in four hours and twenty minutes, being, I believe, the fastest pasyet. It is certainly a great improvement on the passage of Dr. Pollen and the first prospecting party, when, they took twenty-four hours to,get down, here, and forty-eight hojirs to get back; Yesterday’s arrivals increased our population by one hundred and ten. Amongst the arrivals last night were Mi S. Cochrane, and Mr Stewart,..of the Bank of New Zealand. •,< We had another rush yesterday, but either the, prrty .who got up the rush was “ 501 d,”.: or : thiscountry , must he very fertile, in- auriferous.quartz,'.as the prospector was of the order-of veriest new chums. The other news is nfl.' ‘‘Until we have machinery we can’t/get the gold out qf the quarts ;I; suppose the machinery, will coipe; as we kaye.a good flesh! loaf, tfie r ,knife; to out it/will' come, flom some quarter, . All who can fio, so are getting ready to Bend their quartz to Corpr mandjeli and some talk -of:-taking? their§; Jp gbraM,. /•- 1
