ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. TARANAKI.

We are glad ro be in a position 'toanUouhce th« safe arrival of tbe f s.s. th?g,igo)rniog.< The. following is her, report, kindly’ furnished iby Mr Kebbell, purser ,: — • . !. ; “The Taranaki left Auckland' at 2a'.ra:'onth® 29th. ultimo; arrived 1 at Tauranga the same, night. Left again at 7 a.m. on the 30th; and-arrived.at Poverty Bay. at 8 a.m.on theTst of July. While slackening th'e’ engine, the cutter fastening the screw broke. A heavy gale from S.E. came on ■ while-the Taranaki was at Poverty Bay,—the. vessel being in great danger of going ashore.. Got out cable and* shifted to a better berth. On Thursday last, the the s.s. Lord Ashley took, Taranaki in tow for Tauranga, where she arrived on Friday night. Beached the vessel, and. re* ■ paired damages. Left for port on Saturday night* and arrived in the roadstead this morning. The Taranaki steams for Wellington this day* j at Ip.m.

The cutter Betsy, H. Trimmer, master, arrived in port at 2 o’clock in the’morning of Tuesday last, after a very rough prssage from Wangapoa.' She was twice blown. off the land while off the the East Cape,—one time the vessel being as mmy as 150 miles from shore., Capt. Trimmer reports having anchored under Cape Runaway, and while lying there on Saturday last, the 29th ultimo, saw a cattle steamer (in all probability the Star of the South) pass to the northward. The. Betsy left Cape Runaway on Sunday, the 30th, and made a very good run down of two days. This favorite cutter will leave for Auckland in. a day or two.

We see by a paragraph in the Home News*, that the steamer advertised for sale by Messrs. Stuart and Co., of Napier, has been launched on the Clyde. The paragraph runs thus:—“A few days since a fine screw steamer- was launched on the Clyde from the yard of Messrs. Seath and Connal, Putherglen. She was named the Go-a» Head,’and is intended by her-owners, the Clyda Shipping Company, for the New Zealand coastingtrade. Her dimensions are—Length, 125- feet ► breadth, 20 feet’; depth, moulded, 7 feet.”
