Wairoa. —We leara that no material damage has been done in the Wairoa district by the late floods. Prospecting.— -We understand that a party of some thirty men, fully equipped, loft town on Monday morning last on a prospecting tour. They are supposed to have gone in a norherly direction. W® shall be pleased to hear of their success. More Rain. —The rainy weather seem® quite loth to leave us. After a delightful day, .wo had a plentiful fall on Tuesday night; and yesterday, slight showers at intervals Were experienced. At this writings the clouds have dispersed, and the day bids fair to be a glorious one. Bead Body Found. —The dead body of a man was found on the banks of the Petane river on Friday, 7th instant. An. inquest was held on ttie 9th instant, and from the evidence taken it would appear that the body was that of one of the natives killed in the fight at Petane on th® 12th October last. The following verdict was returned by the, jury We are of opinion -that deceased, an aboriginal native, died- from gunshot wounds received in action on the 12th October last, and that his body has been washed away froia the burial place in eottseqaenoeof omit floods.” ■■■■ 1 ■
