GREAT EIRE IN CHRISTCHURCH.—LOSS ESTIMATED AT £IO,OOO. (from thp correspondent of Evening Post.) • Christchurch, April 6,10*48 a.m. Ah 'extensive fire broke out at about one o’clock this morning in a block of buildings in rear of Cookbam House. u The fire originated at Bishop’s stables, then,Bruce and Co.’s premises, and those belonging to Mr Jamieson caught fire, and Were entirely destroyed. The shops in Colombo-rstrcet were in great danger,' and would have been bnrnt down had any wind arisen, but fortunately it was u dead calm. : The fire raged very fiercely for about two bourse ' - ; The damsge is estimated at £IO,OOO.
