MELBOURNE. \2& CLOSE OF THE INTERCOLONIAL POSTAL , ' (Prom telegramain Sydney Morning Herald.) Melbourne, March 22,6 p.m. The Intercolonial Postal Conference has agreed to maintain all three routes by Galle, Panama, and Torres Straits. The Imperial Government is to" be ashed by the colonies jointly, to terminate the present contract with the P. and O. Company, and to pay half 'the amount of the three services—the colonies to pay the other half in "proportions agreed upon. The Torres . Straits line of steamers to sail direoVto and from Singaporethe dates of departure to be so arranged as to give , a fortnightly mail. Queensland is to extend the telegraph to Crpe York, and to erect lighthouses, and to put down buoys in the Straits. The Conference has also agreed to ask' the Imperial Government to pass a short Act to enable the authorities in one colony to apprehend persons guilty of minor offences in another. March 23, 6 p.m. ' The subsidy agreed to by the Conference for the three routes is £400,000, to be apportioned as follows: Victoria ... 60,000 New South Wales ... 60,000 New Zealand ... 60,000 Queensland ... 24,000 South Australia ... 14,000 Tasmania ... 12,000
