Review.
New , ZEAI4KD Tfoiro Book, Vol. 1., by G^S. . WHiTiiOKE':,. JA2tES % o aD, Napier, N.Z. By the courtesy of the publisher of the above work, we have been favored with a copy. We find-that it contains a detailedpedigreeaf the improved shorthomed. stQcky of the Colony, so far as it has been possiffie to supply it, up to the date of publication. From the prefatory remarks to the work we quote as follows ‘ .
The editor, trusts that, breeders with whom he. is hot acquainted,—ofWhom there are many in the colony, possessors of stock as pure as any here recorded,—Will during this-year supplyhim with the pedigrees oftheir cattle, as, if he is-encouraged, .to do. so, he proposes, to, publish a new edition of thisnumber next, year, in which all new’ stock which owners mhy‘ desire to enter, and all-calves bom. during the next ’.twelve months, will be recorded. He trusts also that he may be favoured' with the pedigrees ofjbulls, which, though dead, have been used in the Colony, as it will simplify future records. He will be very happy to help breeders in tracing the pedigrees of animals known to be pure, although the proofe may be defective; and to afford every assistance in his power towardsjhe.flnprovement or acquisition of stock. He Has’the good fortune to be acquainted with Mr Strafford, the editor of Coates, the well-known, auctioneer and judge of. short-horns, and he is confident that he'may promise beforehand that any .commission entrusted, to'that gentleman . wiU “be executed in such a manner as to give satisfection. - Breeders who may feel interested-in. the .continuance of this publication will perhaps be so kind as to send their names for insertion in the list of subscriptions for the next number, and ’to’ state how many ’copies they will require. This Slumber fhas, been published at ; the editor’s cost, but,, if .the .work.is.found.of use, he trusts that in futurethe. expense, which is hot’great, ; \rill be shared by other breeders. 1 1 •
