The Otane Plunket Society will hold a dance in the Otane Town Hall on Tuesday next, June 11. Redward’s orchestra will supply the music.

Attention is drawn to the advertisement appearing in this issue relating to the grand charity ball to be held in the Taradale Town Hall on Thursday, June 20.

Members of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild are reminded that the general monthly meeting will be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday next, June 13, at 2.30 p.m. Mrs Odham, of Napier, will speak. There will be an entertaining play and a vocal trio, “Three Maids of Lee,’’ also a “bring and buy” stall, and afternoon tea.

“Themes from Popular Proverbs” will be the title of a series of special evening addresses to commence to-mor-row at 7 o’clock in the Hastings Methodist Church, the subject being “JVheri in Romo do as the Romans do.” Again Iho church Officials extend a hearty in vitation to all who appreciate a straight-forward talk to attend this service, which will be conducted by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell. The choir will render a new version of “At Even ere the Sun Was Set.” The church being centrally heated people may worship in comfort and enjoy a bright, helpful service.

After the- prolonged summer weathei the turn towards winter conditions has focussed Maraekakaho social minds upon the dancing season, which by reason of every person’s desire to flee from depression on gliding feet promises to be more interesliiig than for several years past. The Hawaiian Nights entertainment has been decided on as the theme for the School Funds Ball on July 26, which promises this year to eclipse anything before held in Maraekakaho, at least so far as concerns a new and luxurious system of Hawaiian decoration. The attractive ideas for this Hawaiian Night come from Nepia Pr.ru who, with Mr A. E. Parnell, of Wellington, is busy designing Hawaiian settings. The music is being supplied by I-cs Henry and his Melody Bpys. The prices are only:— Alcn 3/-,ladies 2/-, double 5/.
