HIGH SCHOOL BENEFIT
Concert at ( Waipukurau ART UNION DRAWN From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, June 7. Not for some time has the Waipuku* rau Municipal Theatre hid such a packed house as that which greeted the drawing of the curtain at the concert given to-night in aid of the Waipukurau District High School. The first half of the programme was taken up with a play by Harold Brighouse entitled, “The Prince who was a Piper,” in which the performers were the pupils of the High School. The play was a great success, and the pupils took their parts remarkably well, displaying excellent tuition and coaching. Beyond a slight hesitancy at the beginning by each player, due no doubt to a slight feeling of nervousness, the players soon become quite at home on the stage, and went through their parts without so much as a single prompt. During the interval the School Days’ Art Union was drawn on the stage under police supervision. The prizewinners were: Mr G. E. Gideon (Vaipukurau) J; Miss M. Kenderdine (Otane) 2; Miss E. M. Frost, H. Robertson; dancers, E. Ganderton, B. Kier, M. Urquhart, P. Ferguson, J. Smyrk. IL Cameron, B. Burgess, M. Cook, B. Davey, B. McLean, I. Sharpin, H. Rutherford, C. Renner. Mrs F. V. Ward very capably carried out tho duties of accompaniste.
