TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

Music Circle Meeting The monthly meeting of the music circle of the Hastinngs Townswomen's Guild, hold in the Methodist Hall on Thursday, was a most successful gathering. Though the weather was exceptionally bad quite a large number of members were present. The afternoon had been arranged by Mrs Burton and Mrs Jenkinson, and all thoroughly enjoyed the splendid programme. Mrs F. 8. Budd, leader of the circle, was in the chair, and in the absence of the secretary, Mrs D. F. Sturm, Mrs E. Riley road the correspondence, which included a letter from Mrs W. C. Whitlock, former leader of the circle, who is now living in Tauranga. Mrs Whitlock thanked the members of the circle for the gift which had been seut her in appreciation of her work, and expressed her good wishes for the success of the circle.

The programme commenced with two splendid violin and piano solos, Czardas and “Le Cygne,” given by Miss Fox (piano) anil Mr H. Norton (violin). Mrs H. B. Poppelwell sang two delightful solos, “Here in the Quiet Hills” and “Coming Thro the Rye,” and Miss des Forges also sang very charmingly, her songs being “Damon” and “Dainty Dorothea.”

Mrs E. Riley gave a humorous reading which greatly pleased the audience, and the programme concluded with two solos by Miss Edith Blair, “Cuckoo” and “Orpheus and His Lute.” Mrs Blair accompanied her and also played for Miss des Forges.

A specially delicious afternoon tea contributed by the members was enjoyed by everyone, and the afternoon concluded with a very hearty community sing. add WOMEN—Personal

Miss A.. Mason, Otane, has returned from a six weeks’ holiday spent in the South Island.
