BOXING

AUSTRALIAN BOOM EXPECTED. LEN HARVEY WILL BE THERE (Received 7, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 8. Provided the promoters can recoup the exchange Len Harvey will shortly leave en route for Sydney to meet Rosenbloom for the world light-heavy-weight title and Palmer for the Empire title, also four other fighters. It is anticipated that there will be a boxing boom in Australia in consequence of the commercial recovery. ANNUAL CONFERENCE. REMITS CONSIDERED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Sept. 7. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association opened this morning, Mr O. T. Smith presiding in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr H. R. Dix. Delegates were accorded a civio reception by the Mayor, Mr McKenzie. The report and balance-sheet were taken as read and adopted without discussion. Mr T, Seagar moved on behalf of the Timaru Association that the rules be altered to allow championship bouts on a percentage basis. After discussion the remit was lost. Mr Garcia, for the Taranaki Association, moved that a fee be charged for all permits to clubs holding a tournament, the proceeds to go to the insurance fund. Ultimately the motion was recast to bring it into line with a similar remit carried at the last conference and carried. The fee was fixed at 10/-. Mr Rawson, the treasurer, during a discussion on finance, submitted a statement showing that an Australian visit was estimated to cost £350. This would leave a debit to be made up by a two per cent, levy on the house takings or a straight-out levy on associations. A remit recommending the association to bring down estimates of expenditure for the ensuing year at each annual meeting was carried on the motion of Mr Talbot, Wellington. It was decided on the motion of Mr Heeney, Gisborne, that the minimum purse for professional title bouts be reduced from £5O to £35. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr D. H. Newbigin, Hawke’s Bay; vice presidents. Messrs H. R. Dix (Marlborough), G. Bush (Auckland); N.Z .Council, Dr. P. F. McEvedy, Messrs D. R. Hoggard, J. R. Simpson, E. Blundell, E. A. Dawson, H. H. Sterling, Col. St. J. Beere (all of Wellington); appeal committee, Messrs C. F. Sanders, V. R. Meredith, H. R. McKenzie (Auckland). There was an animated discussion when Mr Lindsay, Southland, moved that if an Australian, team visits New Zealand an international tourney be held at Invercargill. Several delegates objected to settling such a question so far ahead, and the motion was withdrawn.
