N.Z. LADY TOURISTS MISS O. KAY REACHES FINAL. EXPECTED TO WIN TODAY. MELBOURNE, September 6. i'he women s golf championship semi-finals resulted:— Miss Kay defeated Miss Keruot, three and two. Miss Hood Hammond defeated Miss Ferry, six and four. The final to-morrow will be over 36 holes. Perfectly controlled shuts in a high wind entertained the large galleries following to-day’s play. Miss Keniot, a young Geelong -p-w, er, staged a game battle against Miss Kay. Miss Keruot gained the advantage of one on the first nine holes due to her groat putting. Miss Kay played faultlessly on the borne round, registering five fours, a five and a three to win three up and two to play. Despite Miss Hammond's good exhibition, Miss Kay is the favourite and expected to win the final. INTER-STATE AMATEUR MATCH. VICTORIA SECURES A WIN MELBOURNE, September 6. Ryan, the open champion, played marvellous golf against Rymill, going out in 31 and home in 36, a record score, but Ferrier's prodigious hitting in the afternoon rattled the chtftnpion. The young Now South Wales player was two up at the turn. PROFESSIONAL CONTEST. VICARS SHIELD WON BY N.B.W. MELBOURNE, September 6. The Vicars Shield for professionals was won by New South Wales. In the final of the Southern Hawke’s Bay ladies golf championship, Miss J. Robertson defeated Mrs W. R. Russell (both of Dannevirke), four up. VETERANS AT ROTORUA. A COURSE DRIVING RECORD. ROTORUA, Sept. 6. The new Zealand veterans’ annual golf tournament, which opened on Tuesday, has now reached the semifinal stage. The weather conditions which prevailed during the previous week for the Rotorua open championships continued for the veterans and the matches were played under ideal conditions. Veterans from practically every chib in the North Island and from as far south as Timaru are competing. The age minimum is 55. In the quarter-finals, played to-day, E. M. Hutchison beat C. E. Kusabs, 2 up: F. Brabant beat R. Phelan, 3 and 1; A. B. Laurence beat. C. E. Torlesse, 4 and 3; F. W. Wilkie beat R. Rainger, 3 and 2. Rainger set a course driving record by hitting his second shot at the first a distance of 336 yards.
NAPIER CLUB'S TOURNEY. 11.8. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Hawke's Buy amateur championship golf tournament was continued ut Waihiki yesterday afternoon, when a medal handicap and teams’ match for the Williams Cup were played. Two good cards of 75 (gross score) were returned in the medal handicap by G. L. Hoine-Douglas and R. White. Both were handicapped at 5 and returned net scores of 70. The teams match resulted in a win for Napier B, with an aggregate score of 294. Napier D followed with an aggregate of 307Yesterday afternoon's results were:— MEDAL HANDICAP.
