Blenheim, Dec. 9. The Hawke Cup preliminary match between Nelson and Marlborough had an exciting finale, the home team winning by ten runs. Nelson started their second innings wanting 166 to wi. O’Connor was treated with respect, but runs came freely off the other bowlers tried except K. Robinson, and at the tea adjournment five wickets were down for 105 The rest put on 50 runs only. Whe the last man went in 11 runs were wanted to win. but 11. Eden got his leg in front of K. Robinson and victory rested with Marlborough by the narrow margin of ten runs. Nelson’s second total was 155— Taylor 29, Kinsett 12, A. Newman 25, J. Newman 39, R. Newman 17, E. R. Neale 10; bowling, O’Connor two for 62, Henderson one for 28, K. Robinson six for 37, Cragg one for 10. INTER-SCHOOLS MATCH. A match will be played on Thursday December 15, commencing at 2 p.m. between Hastings and Napier schoolboys.
