WAR TROPHIES
HASTINGS GUNS NEGLECTED.
DISCUSSED BY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
No doubt quite a few residents of Hastings will learn with surprise that somewhere in the borough there are two relics of the Great War, in the shape of guns. For some reason or other they apparently have not been given such prominence as might have been expected for last evening there was an outburst of protest at the council meeting.
The matter arose as the result of a communication from the Department of Internal Affairs intimating that the supply of war trophies available for distribution has for some time.being exhausted. Applications, however, are still coming in, and it has been decided to communicate with all local authorities, organisations, etc., to whom trophies were sent, with a view to ascertaining to what extent tho various trophies are being utilised and cared for, and whether there is any possibility of any being available for past unsuccessful and future applicants. “It is absolutely scandalous to think that we have two war trophies lying in the borough yard and all covered up with grass and weeds,” declared Cr. T. Donovan who considered that the guns snould be given proper prominence in Cornwall Park or some such place. ‘ ‘ I was going to suggest that if the council saw fit to hand them over to tho Hastings West Improvement Committee it would see that they are cared for in Ebbet Park” stated the chairman (Cr. S. J. McKee) who moved that the matter be referred to the Reserves Committee for consideration.
This was seconded by Cr. A. I. Rainbow and carried.
