HAWKE CUP PRELIMINARIES. BOTH TEAMS MAKE POOR SCORES. Blenheim, Dec. 8. In the Hawke Cup preliminary between Marlborough and Nelson, the former, after making an excellent start, went to pieces, the total scored being 177. M. Neal had hard luck, being run out when well set with 37 to his credit. R. Cragg made a useful 20. Bowling, A. Newman look three for 32, J. Newman two for 42, Taylor three for 38 and Kiuzett one for 21. Nelson could do no better against the bowling of O’Connor (seven for 48) and Henderson (two for 23). the total realising only 136. of which Kinzett made 50. Coombes 35. Taylor 16 and R. C. Eden 12. Marlborough, in their second innings, had two down for 12 when stumps were drawn. .MANAWATU DEFEATS RANGI TIKEI. Palmerston, Dec. 3. In an eliminating round of the Hawko Cup competition, Manawatu defeated Rangitikei to-day by ten wickets. Cameron (Rangitikei) with 119. and Gallichan (Manawatu), with 85 not out, weFe the highest scores.
