POLICE COURT

LABOURER ADMITS THEFT. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. At a sitting of the Police Court in Hastings yesterday, Messrs. A. A. George and F. C. Wilkinson, J’s P. presided. George Armitage, alias McLeod, alias Mcl-ean was charged with that on October 6 at Te Hauke, he du break and enter the house of Pot< Penare and steal therefrom blankets, sheets and clothing, valued at £lO. Mrs. P. nare in her evidence stated that on October 6 she left her house to go to a shearing shed. Later her sister and brother-in-law left the house, which was locked up. Witness knew the accused by eight. He was living in the pa quite close to witness’s house. On returning Lome later witness found that someone had entered her residence and stolen a quaptitv of goods. Witness made inquiries at the pa and as a result of these the accused brought hack the goods. Her sister was present at the time and. she asked how he got into the house. He replied that he had opened one of the windows with a knife. Not all the good were returned by the accused as there was a suit belonging to witness's brother, not brought back. Detective Fitzgibbon detailed hav ing interviewed the accused 'in refeience to a statement that he had made to the Waipawa police. In the statement the accused admitted thai he had entered the house and taken a quantity of goods. This concluded the case for the police and upon the accused pleading guiltv he was committeed to the Supreme Court, Wellington for sentence.
