YOUTHFUL MAORI SPECULATOR Gisborne, December 7. An extraordinary story of the matrimonial adventures of a Maori youth was related in the Police Court this morning, when Matu Rangi was charged with failing to make provision for his wife. According to the police, the accused. who only recently attained his majority, married a woman of means aged "0, and after obtaining a large sum of money from her disappeared with a young woman. He was arrested on the Ulimaroa at Auckland, where he and the young lady had booked for Sydney under the assumed names of Mr and Mrs Martell. Detective McLeod, in asking for substantial bail, said the accused became acquainted with a somewhat feeble-minded old lady who, on November 2 withdrew £4OO front the Bank of New Zealand and £560 from the Post Office Savings Bank and handed it to the accused, who paid it into his own account. The follow, ing day they were married at the Registry Office, and shortly afterwards the husband disappeared. He picked up with a young lady on the coast, and together they went to Christchurch and then to Auckland. There they were arrested after booking for Sydney Of the money received from the woman about £3OO was left

The accused was remanded on bail of £5OO until Wednesday next.
