WAIPUKURAU BODY. QUARTERLY MEETING. » The quarterly meeting of the Waipukurau Fire Board was held on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs W. G Bryce (Government member, chairman), R. McLean, E. J. Turner (borough representatives). W. E Watson, and E C. Hall (Eire Insurance representatives). A copy of the proposed regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act, was received from the Department of Public Works. The opinion was expressed by Mr. McLean that the brigade should be conversant with the regulations, as greater attention to the regulations would obviate the number of accidents that occurred. The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of the annual report of the Inspector of Fire Brigades for 1926. This included reference to a visit of inspection of the local brigade, and was couched in favourable terms as to the personnel and organisation of the brigade, while the prevision of an adequate high-pres-sure water supply was remarked upon as being then in view, also better equipment. The Department further advised that Inspector Hugo’s report was very complimentary to the firemen. It was decided that the Post and ] Telegraph Department be asked to instal a temporary’ electric alarm-call at the Post Office On the motion of Mr McLean -it was resolved to supply Inspector Hugo with full particulars as to the equipment now available for use. the only outstanding requirement being the siren for attachment to the Ford motor-reel, on order. On the motion of Mr. Watson it was decided that th e executive committee be written to as to the progress being made in the matter of the completion of uniform by-laws. The mover was of th e opinion that the matter of adopting local by-laws should not he unduly delayed. General accounts, totalling £6l 10/11, were passed for payment, also a transfer,from the Loan Account for capita] expenditure involved viz.. £7B 16/1. approved. The credit balance in the capital account was shown to be £.303 7'5 less the transfer of £79 16'1. an<| expenditure on the installation of the electric siren alarm system, and body of the motor chassis. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT The superintendent (Mr. J A. Chambers: reported as folloyn: “The brigade received one call since last meeting, it being a small motor garage, which was completely destroyed before the alarm was given. Th e new motor fire-tender was finished during tl)e quarter, and is working very well. Last evening I finally tested the alarms to the siren, and everything i s jn splendid order. Captain Hugo paid an official visit at tli e end of October, and seemed to be pleased with the working of the brigade. Fireman Welch has resigned and the strength of the brigade is: Officers 2. men 14, and, messenger I. The fire-plugs seem in fair order, ami another inspection i s due thi, week Good attendances have been the order nt all musters, and keen interest is shown.” It. was decided that an expression or gratification nt the reports received from the inspector and superintendent be conveyed to the members.
