NEW ELECTRIC METHOD. MELTED BY HIGH FREQUENCY A.C (Received 8, 10.10 a.m.) London, December 7. A demonstration of steel-making by wireless was carried out by the Imperial Steel Works, Sheffield, (he first metallation in the world to be used commercially in making high quality tool stool. The process is a great advance on melting in crucibles by means of externally heated coke and gas fires. The new method melts tho steel contained in a wood box holding 400 pounds, bv means of a high-fre-quency alternating current similar to that used in a wireless apparatus, circling the crucible and inducing »» eddy of currents in the steel. No external heat is required, and the melting takes only one hour.— (A and N.Z.)
