NAPIER FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY MEETING. The Napier Fire Board held its quarterly meeting last.night. l’i ent: Messrs. J. W. Norrie (chairman), R. W. Goodger, G. MitfordTaylor, and J. P. Williamson. The visiting committee reported that the central fire station was inspected on November 24. All was in order, except that No. 4 machine needed a siren. The port station had been inspected on December 3. • The superintendent had reported that the central station and sub-sta-tion had held five musters durii. the quarter. The brigade had Ik summoned on 19 occasions during the quarter, to eight fires and two chimneys afire. The most serious outbreak had been that in the Women’s Club rooms on the parr le. The annual inter-brigade competition was held on October 22, the Napier team securing first and fifth in one-man event, first in two-men event, and first in three-men event. Tho Department of internal Affairs wrote agreeing to the estabbs ment of a capital expenditure fund. The Post and Telegraph Department advised that it would be necessary to insulate the fire alarm circuit in Lawrence road and Chaucer road owing to the electric light wires being changed to high tension. The Borough Council wrote stating that the charge for water supply rates could not be reduced and that the board’s request Tor the cessation of traffic in the path of an engine en route to a fire would receive consideration.

The Borough Council advised that the charge for paving the right of way at the back of the Central station would be £59-—lt was decided to agree to this, and get the work started as soon as possible.
