Alleged to have attempted to murder and: do grievous bodily harm to a native girl named Noo, at Raratonga, on November 14. Gavin John Allan, ship’s carpenter, aged 23 appeared on remand at Wellington yesterday. when Chief-Detective Ward stated it would he some time before the papers in connection with the charge could be received' in Wellington, but the accused had offered voluntarily to go to Raratonga to face the charge. In these circumstances a remand until to-morrow would be asked for. the accused to be placed aboard the Makura when she sailed this afternoon. A remand was made accordingly.
