CORRESPONDENCE.
It must bo distinctly understood that wo are not to La Identified with the opinions expressed by correspondents in our columns. BOXING, (To the Editor.) Sir,—l understand that an agreement was made between the Napier and Hastings Boxing Associations sonic time ago that future contests would rot be staged in close proximity to each other in the .two towns and that any boxer engaged for a contest in the one town would not be engaged for a fight, which immediately preceded or followed that contest. in the other town, Tho Hastings Association had engaged Leckie a month ago for their programme on th© 2nd January, and yet tho Napier Association have, since then, also engaged him for the fight to-night. Surely the Napier Association must have known that this would, to some extent, spoil Hastings’ chances of a good house, and although they knew Hastings had engaged Leckie thev do not appear to have considered this in the slightest. The press reports during last weMc stated that the committee had been trying for eight months to get Leckie but had been unsuccessful. The Hastings Association got him first time. Was this the reason for Napier totally disregarding an agreement that would -have brought boxing in Napier and Hastings up to its old standard again. I hope the sporting public of Hastings will bear this in mind and support their own town.—l am etc., A HASTINGS SPORT. Hastings, 7/12/27.
