AUSTRALIAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. PATTERSON AND MISS BOYD WIN SINGLES. Melbourne, Dec. 5. Cold and showery weather interfered with play in the State tennis championship finals. Results:— Men’s singles—Patterson .(Victoria) beat Crawford (New South Wales), 7—5. 6—l, 5—7. I—6. 7—5, after a gruelling struggle. Women’s singles.—Miss Boyd (Victoria) beat Miss Akhurst (New South Wales), 6—l— 6-1. Women’s doubles—Miss Harper and Miss Boyd (Victoria) beat Misses Akhurst and Cox (New South Wales), 6—4, 4—6, 3—l (retired).
