WAIPAWA
Summer weather lias been the order here tile last lew days, a welcome change from the cold squalls experienced for the week previous and which delayed shearing operations. The kne weather at the week-end was responsible for outdoor games at the Sports Club grounds being well patronised. A special meeting of tho Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows was held on Saturday evening when a Past Grand Ijodge was held at the special invitation of the Port Ahuriri Lodge, many members of which were present liesides Bro. Pierce. Provincial Grand Master, and Bro. Martin. Past P.G.M. At the conclusion of th" business the purple lecture was given and the degree taken by several members. It is proposed to institute a Past Grand Lodge at Waipawa for the lodges in Central Hawke's Bay. At the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, before Messrs W. I, T.imhrick and F. Holt. J.P.'s. Kuril Hokianga appeared on a charge of the theft of £lO and was remanded to appear before the Magistrate at Waipawa on Thursday next. At the last meeting of the Waipawa District High School Committee the resignation of Mr. J. Corskie, who has been transferred to the Hastings postal staff, was received with regret and a letter of appreciation for his past services is to be sent to him. The Kevd. Mr. Pigott arrived in Waipawa on Saturday to take charge of St. Peter’s Parish. He preached to a large congregation jin St. Peter’s on Sunday evening.
