DOINGS IN HAWKE’S BAY DISTRICT SHIELD COMPETITION FIRST ROUND PLAYED. The first round of the District Shield conipetiiton was played on the various bowling greens on Saturday, when conditions for play were all that could be desired. The results of the Shield games are as below— HASTINGS v. WAIRERE Four rinks from each of the Hastings and Wairere clubs met, two travelling and two staying at home. The result was a win for Wairere by 13 points on the aggregates, which were: Hastings 72. Wairere 85. Collier, Rood, Newbigin, Ay ling (23). NAPIER v. PORT AHURIRI. In the match between the Napier and Port Ahunri clubs there were four games on each of the club greens.
