ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS DUCHESS OF YORK PARTICIPATES. PRINCE LIGHTS 32 LAMPS FOR NEW BRANCHES. London Doc. 4. The Duchess of York participated in the Toe H anniversary celebrations aud attended a service in All Hallews Church. There, in the Chapel of the Lamp, she raised the banner entrusted to her by the women of Wcstralia. Shn entered amidst rows of kneeling women and afterwards visited a nearby women's Toe H hostel, where she was presented with an Empire bouquet composed of flowers gathered >n every country where Toe H c-xsists. The real reason for the visit, however, was to stir a Christmas pudding which she declared appeared a bit stiff, but was assurctl it was right. She then stirred vigorously. The Prince of Wales attended, Toe H’s twelfth birthday. The celebrations began with a service at Westminster Abbey, which was crowded by thousands of mon anil women members, 250 banner hearers representing various parts of 'be Empire, deluding Australia and New Zcalan'd. in eluding Australia and New Zealand, marched in procession to the Unknown Warrior’s tomb, where the Doan offered a special prayer of thanksgiving. The members reassembled at the Albert Hall and opened with community singing. The Prince of Wales, in a broadcast speech, declared that Toe H’s spiiit was deeds, not words. He appealed for an endowment fund of £250.000 to provide an income of £lO,OOO to maintain the leaders in whole-time Toe H jobs. also to provide additional centres.- Ke urged that the fund should be completed to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Armistice. TocH was a power for good and must be made a permanent organisation.
Ex-private Pottifer carried the original Poperhingne ramp, which was handed to the Prince of Wales, from which he lit 32 lamps for new branches, including Australia and New Sealand. Then the hall lights were switched off and 600 lamps lit. in which.the Prince participated.— —(Sydney “Sun” cable).
