MOTOR SMASH
MARVELLOUS ESCAPE.
ACCIDENT AT PAKOWHAI BRIDGE.
At about seven o'clock last night, a three-seater Buick oar, driven by a man whose name is said to be Martin, and containing his wife and child, met with a narrow escape trom a tragic accident at the Pakowhai bridge. It appears that as the car was going on to the bridge one of the tyres burst and the car swerved into the side of the structure, smashing through the rails and coming to a stop with one wheel hanging over the decking. Those who witnessed the occurrence describe the escape of the occupants of the car as nothing short of miraculous. Only the top rail of the nriage held the vehicle, and if this had given way, both the car and its human freight would have been precipitated into the river beneath. The occupants escaped without injury, except from the natural shock ensuing on such an experience, but the car was badly smashed
