NEW AIRSHIPS

TWO READY NEXT YEAR MINISTRY’S EXPERIMENTS. « ENGLAND TO NEW ZEALAND IN 12 DAYS. (British Official Wireless.! (Received 5, 11,30 a.m.) Rugby, Dec. 3. Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary cf State for Air, speaking at Oxford University, said it was hoped that two new airships would be completed some time next year. If experiments which the Ministry ’ had been conducting for the last three years succeeded, they would bring Egypt within two days of England, India within four days, Australia within ten or eleven‘days, and New Zealand within 12 or 13 days. That would be a great advantage to the British Empire and to trade and commerce generally. The Ministry, said Sir Samuel Hoare. had embarked definitely upon a long period of research and were carrying out a series of small-scale experiments. A number of scientists were engaged on the work and great progress in design and knowledge of airships had been made. The Meteorological Office had charted the air between England and India and had acquired information about air currents that had never been known before.
