An inquest at Dunedin on Andrew Hydd and William Hopwood, victims of tho blasting fatality at Burke’s railway construction works, the Coroner said that the men had gone back to the face before the third explosion had gone off. It was hard to understand why' Hopwood came to commit such a serious oversight. A verdict was returned that death was due to injuries accidentally received. Having a cigarette in his pocket whilst in the Dobson mine on November 3 last James Alexander was fined £3 Ils to-day, lie being fined £2 with costs at the Greymouth Magistrate's Court. He pleaded guilty, declaring he forgot that he had the cigarette in his pocket.—(Press Association.)
