STOCK IMPORTATIONS
REMOVAL OF RESTRICTION. OPPOSED. “A lot of people do not realise what it would mean if we got the food and mouth disease into this country,” said Mr Absolum at yesterday’s meeting of the H.B. A. and P. Society. ‘ln a short time at least a quarter of the farmers would be absolutely ruined. Once it got here the deer would carry it all over the place, especially in the mountainous areas. I am strongly opposed to removal of any of the restrictions imposed on the importation of stock.” Hr Toil: I am also of the opinion that we should stick to the present restrictions. If they arc to bo removed then we will have to see that the period of quarantine is considerably extended. I quite agree that it would be a calamity if the disease once got a hold. Mr Absolum’s views met with the approval of the meeting.
