LETTER FROM CHIEF KIWI.

DEAR KIWIS,— TT is such a beautiful morning and I have removed myself with my accompanying pile of literature. i.ut into the sunshine. The dragon lies beside me, basking in the warmth of the sun. and too content (having already breakfasted), to bother about the growing pile of previously pub. lished jokes and riddle* in his vicinity. Since Monday evening's gale, 1 have an uneasy feeling that I ought to cal] the roll, for fear some of you may have been blown away and I hope that if any of you did take unexpected flights, that vou will return in time to take part in the Christmas competitidns from our Kiwi Corner. Judging for the prize wa. difficult this week .but, though Lois Stewart’s essay was exceedingly good and beautifully written. I gave the laurels •to Helen Shield, for her letter had that touch of originality which J should like to see more often in cur page. The hauwrous episodes which are inseparable from our daily doings, make good reading if written of Intelligently. You will like to hear of Ken Batson’s school life, though 1 suspect there will be a little enrv nt the amount of time he is allowed for lunch. Nearly two hours! Surely the English school boards must gire much consideration to the digestinn of their pupils. . Kitty Oliver: 1 have encountered many magpies, ana found them >ntelligent and interesting. If your baby magpie thrives, vou must teach it to talk. They are great mimics. Marjory Edwards: There is much excitement in the books of Baroness Orcsy, and much of interest in earlv history. Venice Wall: There are always regrets in leaving old associa. tions and you will miss yonr Brownie mates, but you will love being a Guide. Glad v« Kitt: I expect von are contemplating many holidays at the beach thia summer. J oven Lange; You had a lovely day, Joyce. Did you find the peacocks sc beautiful that you could forgive them for being vain. R. Cooney: Congratulations on your success at woodwork It is such a useful and pleasure giving occupation. Sign your full name next time please. Olga Hemmingson Your essay is quite unlike any of roar previous ones Olga and I think That the moonlight must have inspired you as well u .Modestino Peggy Rae: Your fairy story was so much like doaens of others that have reached me. Peggy. Surely. even in Fairyland, there are many new things to write of. Norman Downes. I am sorry you did not send your birthdav date earlier Norman, for we should all have liked to give vou a greeting. Emily Osborne: With all the lovely happenings. Joan will ever bless the day when she decided to make a flower garden. Percy Cambridge: Your essays are most readable. Percy, and we are all »”r so glad that you don't forget the Kiwi’s nest. There is a great improvement in the juniors' work this week and I am sorry that there la not antics to* me to reply to their nice little letters Agnes Joseph exceeded the word limit with her essay, and P Staci? contributed a nago of ioke, and riddles for which I thank him, hut the rules only admit of our publishing one each of these. N«w Kiwis am Dick Pollinplon and Douglas Jav. and mV thanks for silver paper "o fn Gny Smith. Hinemon Mitchell F'ftv Oliver. Peggy Rae Gladvs Kitt Erin Honey. Lois Stewart. Jovrn Tinge.
