OTANE

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The school committee met on Monday night. Present: Messrs A. E. Black (chair), F. E. Williams, T. E. G’olquhoun. G. Cleary and it. Pilcher, and the headmaster. Correspondence was received from the Hawke’s Bay Educatio Board stating that the resuest for a male assistance next year would be considered. It was decided to apply to. the board for £4 10s as a subsidy on a similar amount raised by voluntary contribution. Mr T. E. Colquhoun was appointed delegate to a meeting at Waipawa on December 3rd for the purpose of considering the question of holding a combined sports meeting. It was decided to approach the Edu cation Board with a view of having the windmill and pumps overhauled. The procuring of the Dux medal was left in tjre hands of the headmaster. The “breaking-up” ceremony will be held about the 20th or 21st of December. Afternoon tea will be provided for the parents and visitors by the committee, and there will be a dance in the evening in aid of the picnic fund. The usual bonus was granted to the caretaker for good work performed during the year. The annual picnic will take place on the first Friday in February. Sir. George Hunter, M.P., is to be written to asking whether anything definite is being done with regard to the dental clinic in order that the committee may have an opportunity to prepare. The headmaster’s report showed that the roll was 175. and the averages for the past four weeks—l 63.6, 162.1, 164.0, 163.5. Miss Mattheson concludes duty as relieving teacher on tho 30th and Miss Miller resumes duty on the Ist December. The science instructor visited the school on the 2nd and the drill inslructors on the 22nd. The annual proficiency examination was conducted by Dr. Mcllraith at Waipawa on November 21st. ’ picture of the Otano district has oeen ordered from tho Government scenic photographer. Mr R. Moore, and will be hung in the school.
