SOUTH CANTERBURY RACES. Timaru, Dec. 2. The South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting opened at Washdyke under favourable weather conditions. The track is m excellent order after recent rain and there is a large attendance. Results: — Otaio Handicap.—l Thorndale (Ellis) 1, 5 Green Cloth 2 3 Gold Mint 3. Scr: Shalrdre. Won by hail a length, three lengths between second and third. Time 2.9 1-5, Spring Stakes.—l Arikiwai (A. E. Ellis) 1,2 Noteworthy 2. 6 Merivaie 3. Scr: Smithereens. Won by two lengths, a neck between second and third. Tune. 1.2 Teschemaker Handicap.—l Set Sail (F. Voight) 1. 5 Ark Royal 2,2 Battlement 3. All started. Won bv a head, a length between second and third. Tune. 2.6 2-5. Tycho Hack Handicap.— 4 Money Mine (S. Wilson) 1, ft Donne 2, 3 Solgele 3. Scratched : Lady Dilatory, Thurso. Won by a length and a half, a length between second and third. Time, 1.13 2-5.
