HASTINGS BOROUGH BY-LAWS
(To the Editor). Sir, —It would appear from various reports appearing in the piess, that the by-law dealing with advertising on vehicles has not been fully understood. This by-law does, not interfere with advertisements on vehicles in commercial use, nor does it prevent any business man from advertising what he pleases on his cars trucks or vehicles, so long as these are not used exclusively for advertising purposes and no other. This by-law simply prohibits any person from using exclusively any vehicle for advertising purposes only, in the public streets.
Someone said the other day that the Borough Council had too many officials. Evidently that person does not believe in law and order ; people who s|>eak like that must want everything to suit themselves and no one else. Mr. Dunnett informs me that never at any time has he interfered with any motor car left standing in the main street whether it has so remained twenty minutes or half an hour, so long as such vehicle or car has been left standing in a correct position alongside the curb. The public have nothing to fear, nor has the motorist, so long as reasonableness is allowed to be the essence of all handling of motor cars or other vehicles, always bearing in mind that the streets are there to be Used and not abused.—Yours, etc , S. J. McKEE. Hastings, 2/12/27.
