TRAGEDY FEARED
TWO MEN MISSING WENT ON FISHING EXPEDITION LAUNCH FOUND. (Special to “Tribune.”) Auckland, Dec. 1. It is teared that a tragedy may nave overtaken two mon who went fishing on Teri on Monday atternoon. The launch arrived at Fisnerman's Bay off Ten, and dropped anchor. Two men were seen to go off in s dinghy, evidently to set their nets. As the launch did not move tor two days and no sign of life was seen her, the authorities at Auckland were communicated with. There is food on the launch and the nets are still set but there is no sign of the men or the dinghy.. WHAT THE POLICE FOUND. The Harbour Board’s pilot vessel Ferro, with a police officer on board, was dispatched to investigate this morning. On boarding the fishing boat the police encountered a most offensive smell. The bottom of the boat and the cabin were littered with decaying sclinapper. The men had evidently just finished a meal before going off in the dinghy, as dishes were left just as they had been used. Clotlung was lying in heaps on the floor and a clock on the had stopped at 1.45. In a coat pocket .was found a watch, a greenstone ornament and a chain, with keys co the cabin door in another pocket A French dictionary was unearthed, the launch was in running order and mad© the run back from ten on her own power. The police and .the Customs have taken charge and are investigating the affair. The vessel is a. 40-footer named Te Hunui and is owned by Mr. Owen Jones, of Auckland.
