EXTENSION OF TIME
TO DISCUSS DRAFT REGULATIONS. MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION’S REQUEST TO PREMIER. Nelson, Nov. 29. The Mayor of Nelson (Mr. W. J. Moffatt), as president of the Municipay Association of New Zealand, sent the following communication to the Premier concerning the proposed motor regulations:—“The time allowed for the consideration of the motor regulations is altogether inadequate, and I request that the time be extended to alow the Municipal Association’s executive to fully deliberate thereon at its meeting on December 14. I suggest the use of roads, etc., is so affected by the provisions ot the Municipal Corporations Act, Public Works, Police Offences, Stock and Impounding and other Acts dealing with traffic, that a comprehensive traffic Act is required to consolidate the provisions of all those Acts and other Acts affecting all classes of traffic, including pedestrians.” The Premier replied :—“Your telegram received and the representations regarding the motor regulations duly noted. They have been forwarded for consideration by the Minister of Public Works.” Mr Moffatt states that the Government had asked that the recommendation of local bodies be forwarded by December 1 in order that the regulations could be gazetted on December 7. The view of the Municipal Association was that it was impossible for the Government to go through all the recommendations before December 7. A suggestion had been made that an emergency meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association be held to consider the regulations, but as this would have been attended bv onlv a lew representatives it was considered advisable tn ask for an extension of time in order Ihrt 1!
