PROPOSED WATER LOAN

TO-DAY’S POLLING. The polling of votes on the question of raising a loan of £lO,lOO for the purpose of water extension in Hastings, opened at Manson’s shop, St. Matthew’s Hall and the Protestant Hall at 9 o’clock this morning. This (St. Andrew’s Day) being a court and legal as well as a bank holiday, may account for the tardiness of the voting, but, whatever the cause, the ratepayers polled slowly and at 3 p.m. the total votes amounted to 159—70 at the Protestant Hall, 53 at Manson’s shop and 36 at St. Matthew’s Hall. The total number of ratepayers on the roll is 4,196, including ratepayers and their wives.
