CORNWALL PARK
OBSERVATORY ESTABLISHED INSTRUMENTS IN THEIR i PLACE. Dr. E. Kidson, Director of the Government Meteorological Office, Wellington, was engaged this morning in installing the meteorological instruments at the Cornwall Park observatory, Hastings. He was accompanied by Mr. W. W. the curator of Cornwall Park, ,*nd Mr. E. W. Watson, the honorary observer, and he gave general directions as to how the work is to be carried out. I n conversation vith a “Tribune” reporter, Dr. Kid. son explained that the equipment was nothing elaborate, consisting as it did of a rain gauge, and a Stephenson’s Screen. containing a maximum and minimum thermometer and a wet and dry bulb, to show the temperature and the humidity. There was also a gross minimum thermometer, to show the low temperature f 'll on the surface of the ground. The enclosed area, situated slightly north of the Bird House, measures about 50 x 60 feet. Tho work of establishment is proceeding and will be completed in a few days.
