Hunt For Ambergris: Three Stewart Island fishermen recently took a tramping-trip to the less fre quented bays hunting for ambergris, but with only fair success. A feature ot their trip (says the Southland Times) was the large number of deer encountered in the remoter bays and beaches, and 2/- per tail royalty helped considerably in paying their expenses. A- deer appear to be fond of frequenting the benches, where they eat the kelp which has drifted ashore, and they also appear to enjoy racing along the sandy stretches. At West Rugg’dy bench a herd of wild oattle was reen, and they are increasing rapidly as also are the wild pigs.
