NEWS AND NOTES. The special week-end train to Wellington on Saturday contained 13 Waipukurau excursionists. On arrival in Wellington ’ the train had -190 travellers aboard. ■ In connection with the activities of the supporters of the Sports Queen (Miss 0. At the recent half-vearly meeting of Loyal Tavistock Lodge of Oddfellows Bro. G, Gibson, the retiring N. was installed in the otficc of 1.P.N.G.. and complimented on the able manner in winch he had presided over the destinies of the lodge during the past term, ft was resolved that the name ot Bro. F Lucas, P.G., be placed on the Merit Board and following upon eulogistic reference to his work on behalf ot the lodge, on the part of Bro. L. Stein P.D.G.M., the installing officer, he was presented with a past officer’s emblem. On enquiry at the hospital yesterday afternoon your correspondent ascertained that Mr H. C. Mason, who sustained serious injuries to his face through an explosion occurring yesterday whilst he was engaged .welding the end of a petrol tank, was progressing satisfactorily. The Mayor has convened n public meeting for to-morrow night at 8 o’clock m the -Municipal Theatre, for the purpose of protesting against the Railway Department’s actiau in refusing to recognise the dangerous nature of the Ruataniwha street railway crossing. As the matter is admittedly of special town and district concern it is hoped that the meeting will be largely attended. Haldane 19: Piki, Jones. Cntforth Mnrphv 15. The East Coast Centre Shield games start next Saturday when Waipukiiran meet- Havelock North in home and home games.
