LATEST GAS MASKS

SUPPLY FOR NEW ZEALAND. Officers and N.C.O.’s of the Territorial Force may shortly be given instruction in the use of gas masks. A small supply of the latest type of gas mask is being imported bv the. Defence Department for instructional purposes. The new mask embodies some of the principles of the box respirator, which saved thousands of lives during the war, in that it has the box container of the purifying chemicals and the mask which fits tightly over the face. The nose clip and the tube mouthpiece, two causes of acute discomfort in prolonged wearing of the musk, have been eliminated and breathing is done naturally into the mask. 'Die valves are so arranged that that purified air comes into the mask from the box and the foul air escapes from outlets in the mask behind the ears.
