FAMILY ENDOWMENT.
ITS TAX ON INDUSTRY. N.SAV. LABOUR EXPERIMENT. Sydnr , Nov. 26. In the Assembly, tin .on T. R. Bavin stated that up to date £577,000 had been collected under the Family Endowment Act and only £75,000 paid. Further claims would be paid as they were investigated. As showing the incidence of the levy, ho said that inquiries had been made of 25 leading wholesale and retail manufacturing establishment and revealed that the tax upon them amounted to £120,000 per annum, while the total disbursements to their employees was only £5500. He added that tho Government had been told from many quarters that the levying of tho tax was unquestionably causing unemployment. Mr Lang strongly protested against the Government’s decision not to compensate the cx-Commlssioner Mr Tro hie. as this was repudiation of an undertaking of his Government. The present Government was acting along a line of viciousness.
