ATTEMPT TO ESTABLISH MOTOR RECORD

At attempt made by Signor Foresti at Pendine Sands, South Wales, yesterday to establish new motoring' records in the baby one-ton car “Djelmo.” ended in disaster. Ths car skidded and turned completely over twice and was shattered) Foresti had a wonderful escape, suffering only shock, an injured shoulder and a bad cut above the right eye. QUARTER-MILE SKID. NEW MOTOR “RECORD.” The longest skid in the history ot motor racing was seen on the sands at Pendine (Wales) last month, when Signor Foresti was practising for his attempt to lower the world’s fastest speed record. The driver with his 400-h.p. car was speeding at 120 miles an hour toward the start of the measured mile when the ear struck a wet patch of sand. The tail swung round viciously, and the machine proceeded to do a series of extraordinary gyrations over a distance of a quarter of a mile. For the first 150 yards it careered broadside on. the driver facing the sea. then the tail swung farther round, and the car travelled almost backward, the driver facing the village of Pendine, from which he had started. Then the car struck a further wet patch of sand turned full circle and a, quarter, and continued broadside oh with the driver facing the sand dunes. Meanwhile the drag of the wheel sent up mountains of sand and water and sent volumes of black smoke issuing from the exhaust. Finallv, with splendid skill, Foresti. straightened up the car and proceded as though nothing had happen-
