A SUPPLEMENTARY LIST SUBSIDY TO CRICKETERS. EXPENSES OF ROYAL TOUR. Expenditure totalling £206.547 is provided for in the Supplemental? Estimates. ' The sum of £2158 is to be set aside for the remission of the balance of the death duties in the estate of the late John McGregor. An additional £50,000 is provided for extra labour in connection with the maintenance of telegraph and telephone lines. For the expenses of the chief tele graph engineer in attending the world radio conference £lOOO is allocated. An additional £lO.OOO is provided for the restoration of road works and bridges damaged by flood, and an additional £11.293 for maintenance and repairs to roads. To cover the expenses of the confiscated Native lands commission, a further £5OO is to be allowed. The sum of £9OOO is to be granted for prison farm and garden development work. Charges for the commission of inquiry into the Dobson mine disaster are to be met by a vote of £306. For the purchase of land in connection with the Taupo fisheries a sum of £4250 is to be provided. The sum of £355 is to bo voted for the expenses of the New Zealand representatives at the opening of the Commonwealth Federal Parliament at Canterra. additional £2OOO is to be provid ed for the cost of official functions and the entertainment of visitors to the Dominion. The Board of Maori Arts and Crafts is to receive a grant of £1252 while £lOOO is to be granted the New Zealand Cricket Council to assist in meet ing the expenses of the recent tour of the New Zealand cricketers abroad. The cost of New Zealand representation at the International Economic and Naval Disarmament Conference is to be met by a vote of £550. The usual list of compassionate allowances is included. The principal grants are:—Widow of T. R. A. Smith (a postman killed while on duty) £lOlO, widows of E. J. Casey (labourer, killed while on duty) £Bi>2. widow of S. C. Kiddell (linemen, killed while on duty) £507, widow of the late Hon. R. F. Bollard £1250. widow of the late W. Jolliffe £470,‘ widow of the late P. S. Waldie £460. A special grant of £1250 is to be made to Sir Truby King on his retirement. A subsidy of £5OO (£1 for £1) is allowed the Girl Guides’ Association. A further £5OOO is to be appropriated in connection with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. The women’s division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union is to receive a grant of £l5O towards the cost of railway transit of nurse and visiting housekeeper. The Karitane Hospital. Wellington, 1* to receive £lOOO for maintenance. Subsidies towards the salaries of L Plunket nurses total £2OOO.
The Women’s National Reserve re sidential nursery is to receive £2OO. An additional £5700 is to bo voted for repairs, alteratins, docking, etc., of H.M.C. Dunedin, and £535 for the mine-sweeper H.M.B. Whaka. kura. The charges for the Napier Harbour Board Commission arc £3500. and this amount, which is recoverable, is tb be voted. 1 A further £lO,OOO is provided for portion of the freight rates on fertyisers carried by the Railway De partment. A subsidy of £BOOO is to be voted for herd testing associations. The assist in meeting the 1926 de fleit. £3OOO is to be granted to the Otago University, which will also reeeive £lOOO to provide for additional maintenance in respect to new medical and dental school buildings. An additional subsidy of £25.000 is provided for the teachers’ superannuation fund. The sum of £l5OO is to be voted for the Wellington vaccine station. The votes for the maintenance and construction of main highways are £25,000 and £75.000 respectively. A sum of £5OOO is to be provided for the purchase of stock, etc., for the Massey Agricultural College. ADDITIONAL ROAD VOTES. Additional road votes include the following:—Wairoa-Clyde Bank settlement road. £150; Hukanui block road. £400; Egmont-Waircmu road, £300; Hawke’s Bay-Salisbury Creek bridge, £300; Akitio-Akitio bridge. £500; Masterton-Blnck Creek bridge £300; Ngahape road. £5OO.
