BEATS TEN MALE RIVALS. •JUDGE’S SURPRISE. , London, November 4. The appearance at a tenor contest at Wadebridge (Cornwall) musical festival, of Miss Hore. astonished the adjudicator, Dr. Darke. He declared that he shut his eves while she was singing in order that he would not be prejudiced. The best of her ten male rivals scored 82 points, while Miss Hore's rich, mellow voice was awarded 84. Dr. Darke, awarding her the cup, for which the test piece was Coleridge Taylor’s “Eleanore,” said that he thought it was a men’s competition. He had not expected a ladv to sing, and it Seemed incongruous that one lady should make love to another, although it was not her fault. She not onlv knew feelin", but controlled her feeling, he added. Miss Hore thanked her rivals for the sporting way they had received her.
