IN BANKRUPTCY
TWO MEETINGS OF CREDITORS AN ELECTRICIAN S AFFAIRS. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Leslie Taylor Clark, electrical engineer, of Hastings, was held at the Courthouse, Hastings, yesterday, when the Official Assignee (Mr. G. G. ChisnolnO presided. There were also present bankrupt and his solicitor (Mr E. J. W. Hallett) and Mr. W. McLean, representing Hardley’s Ltd. (Auckland). The financial statement showed that the amount owing to unsecured creditors was £217 17/6. while the assets, book debts, were estimated nt £lOO, leaving a deficiency of £ll7 17/7. PERSONAL STATEMENT. In his personal statement bankrupt said: “1 was in business in Taumarunui as an electrical engineer. I started on borrowed money in 1926. I got plenty of business but had considerable trouble in getting the money in. Shortly alter this I got married. My wife’s health would ju't permit her to live in Taumarunui so I sold out my business and came to Waipukurau. 1 received £l2O clear on the sale of the business. With this 1 cleared up my liabilities in connection with the purchase of the business but could not pay various trade accounts owing to the fact that 1 could not get my book debts iu. There was about £2OO in book debts when 1 left Taumarunui. I was vol king on wages m Waipukurau for a few months, then lost my job. I was out of work lor six or seven weeks. 1 then got a job in Napier for a couple of months, then came to my present job m Hastings where I am earning £5 a week. I have paid my living expenses since I left Taumarunui but have been unable to pay any of my back debts. So far I have recovered about £BO on account of book debts. This was eaten up in medical expenses for my wife and travelling expenses. I have been compelled to file because Turnbull and Jones, Ltd., have obtained a judgment summons order against me and I cannot pay anything. I have a wife and one young child dependent cn me. ' 1 kept books while I was in business but have never had a balance-sheet prepared.” To the Official Assignee bankrupt stated that he hoped to make an offer later but could not do so at present. He thought there was plenty of scope here to start again. A LABOURER’S TROUBLES. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Theodore Bader, labourer, of Hastings, was held yesterday in Hastings, when the Official Assignee (.Mr. G. G. Chisholm) presided. The financial statement showed that the sum owing to creditors amounted to £159 13/2. and that there were no assets Mr. H. de Denne looked afte- the interests of the bankrupt. There were no creditors present, and the meeting lapsed.
