CHANCE DECLINED.
The Hastings Chamber of Commerce has received a letter from the Hawke’s Bay Stock Auctioneers’ Association, in reply to the Chamber’s application to have the Stortford Lodge sales changed from Wednesday to Tuesday, which said that, after going carefully into the matter. they were unable to agree to the application. Ihe secretary (Mr Perrin) pointed out that a letter bad been written ti the Hawke’s Bay executive of the Harmers’ Union asking for their support, but no reply had been received.
The president explained that, at the meeting of the association, many tetters were received from farmers outside Hastings in opposition to the .ihange, and there was no expression of opinion from the local farmer*, so that, as the association were <i -ncerned in the requirements of the farmers, they could do nothing but decline to make the change. Even if the local farmers had expressed themselves in favour of tie change, he doubted if it would have made any difference. The letter was received'
