TAKAPAU.
(Own Correspondent.)
This week the weather, luckily for shearing operations, shows signs of taking up. Farmers and shearers have had a particularly bad run so far and sheds in operation in the district have onlv been able to get in two complete days’ shearing in the past fortnight. The proposal for the erection of Plunket and Mothers’ Rest rooms in Takapau was advanced quite a bit on 'Saturday afternoon, when a general meeting of those interested- was held in the Public Hall supper room, Mrs De Stacpoole presiding. It was decided to go on with the erection of a building according to plans submitted. the Plunket Committee and Advisory Committee being empowered to make some modifications. A hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Mrs N. M. Paulsen, was tendered to Mrs Sydney Johnston who. in addition to a handsome donation, is loaning the sum of £5OO. and who is erecting a limestone wall in front of the section which she presented for the building. Stall-holders were appointed for the garden fete to lie held in December at “Brookwood.’’ the residence of Mr N. M. Paulsen. It was decided to hold a big fancy fair in March, and Mr W- Cuthbertson was asked if he would take in hand the matter of organisation.
