Sir, — Lloyd George won the coalition election my reading tells me on “hanging the Kaiser.” Later, Lloyd George, addressing the Newspaper Convention after their return from a visit to Canada said: “Germany was not answerable for the war, we all just stumbled into it.” Later, again, Lloyd George on his return from Genoa and the fiasco there, said in the House: “Russia refused to consider peace, Russia first crossed the boundary, Russia fired the first shot ” Later again I seem to remember Viscount Grey, then Sir Edward Grey, told the House he w’as getting out a white for yellow) book which would show the people of the Empire what was the canse of the war, but when the Bolsheviks gotcontrol of the Russian archives they gave to the world a note from a German Ambassador to Grey delivered on the 28th July, 1914, appealing to Grey to cal] a meeting of the Powers to tr.v and avoid war The Russian Ambassador, on receipt of the note, called on Grey and said if the meeting proposed was to avoid war, neither Russia nor Franco would have anything to do with it. Grey didn’t publish this note, Mr, French proves, if his letter is correct in substance, that the responsibility for the war is on Grey and the other members of the British Cabinet. He says: “In his efforts to keep the peace Sir Edward Grey refrained from informing the German Government that if Belgium was invaded,- Great Britain would probably fight.” Later he says: “And Miscount Grey is of the opinion that if the German Chancellor had been convinced that Britain wouli fight, he would have exercised ev<Lw flower he possessed io check the war. ...” Therefore if Grey hadn’t just “refrained from telling” there would have been no war.

Bonar Law said he woudn’t stay a week in Iraq for any oil trusts, but, he found he had to come to heel and in reference to continuing there, took sick and got out, not of Iraq, bill his job.
