WAIPAWA.

(Own Correspondent)

The warm weather of the last few days, following the recent beneficial rains and coupled with the excellent prices obatined for wool, have put a glad spirit into the hearts o fthe farmers and this was reflected by the large number in town on Saturday and the business transacted for the week-end shopping. The weather conditions are also conductive to a marked growth in vegetables and other garden produce and as a result there is every prospect of excellent exhibits at the Waipawa Horticultural Show, to beheld next Wednesday. The beautiful weather of Saturday was responsible for the various sections of bowls, tennis and croquet at the Waipawa Sports Club grounds being well patronised. The grounds were in splendid order and a nenjoyable afternoon was spent by the players. Afternoon • tea was provided by Mesdameg Dailey and Blackie, hostesses for the afternoon. The Municipal Theare was well filled on Friday evening, the attraction being a recital by Miss Margaret O’Halloran, A.T.C.L., and hei pupils. The programme consisted oi 32 items, besides recalls, which were numerous, and well merited. Many of the items could b<j> described as “gems’’ and reflected on the excellent training imparted by Miss O'Halloran. The items contributed by this lady herself were a wonderful demonstration of her histrionic and elocutional abilities. A nicely balanced orchestra added to the enjoyment of the evening. Mr. R. Rust acted as accompanist in his usual capable style. The performers were entertained at supper after the entertainment and the evening’s enjoyment concluded with a dance.
