RAILWAY PROFITS

INCREASE LAST MONTH.

FIRST ADVANCE SINCE MAY

For the first time since May the accounts of the Railway Department for the four weeks which ended on October 1.5 show a greater working profit than in the corresponding period last year—£34,7o*2, against £25,630. The working profit in the 28 weeks of the current financial year has been £423,153, against £576,712 last year, and £526,546 in 1925. The decline of £153,559 in comparison with last year is equivalent to nearly 27 per cent.
